GREAT NEWS FROM TRUE NORTH MINISTRY!
We have exciting news! True North Ministry is launching a new ministry! We will continue
doing ministry in Juvenile Detention Centers as our core ministry, and that will NOT change.
But we are branching out into community-based ministry called ACCELERATE! where we will
work with inner city youths in an age range of middle school through high school. We will be working with
youth in several life growth areas, according to the pattern found in Luke 2:52, where, “Jesus kept increasing in
wisdom and stature, and favor with God and men.” A vision statement that the board has accepted for this
ministry is attached to this email below.
A flyer for accelerate is being sent out with this announcement. In ACCELERATE!, we’ll be scheduling
after-school assistance with homework, providing them meals, conducting devotionals, and also have fun
activities planned at the community center. We will also endeavor to form small group bible studies and offer
mentoring for interested youths. Our ultimate goal is to draw them to a growing relationship with the Lord, and
to a local church. We want to help them ACCELERATE! their relationship with the Lord!
Our first location will be at the Patterson Park Community Center in North Hill, but our vision
is to eventually expand to other needed locations in inner city Akron. Our plan is to start on
Tuesday, February 2nd from 3:00 to 5:15 p.m. We’ll meet twice per week, every Tuesday and Thursday at that
same time slot. At least two City of Akron staff members from the community center will be present at all times
to help our volunteers, and to help administer strict COVID protocols, which will include temperature checks
and masks, as well as social distancing within the building.
But we also need your help! We need VOLUNTEERS! Dedicated Christian men and women
who feel called to teach and mentor young people, and who want to have a positive, eternal
impact on their lives. We are only asking for a once a month commitment from volunteers.
Come join us! And if you cannot participate yourself, then please tell others about this
opportunity to serve!
Jesus said, “The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send
out workers into his harvest field.” We are being obedient to the call of the Great Commission for this new
work, and we are praying that God would raise up new volunteers to co-labor with us in support of this ministry.
