Mentoring
Discipleship is the heart of mentoring. 1 on 1, long-term discipleship is our most effective weapon against recidivism, unemployment, and the overall hopelessness that our young men and women face as they leave the doors of the prisons. Through a partnership with the agency that runs the state level prisons ( Ohio Department of Youth Services or ODYS) True North now has the opportunity to mentor young men and women incarcerated in DYS living in Summit and Cuyahoga Counties.
As a mentor you will have the opportunity to build relationship with the youth in the prison, and then also continue to meet with them after their release. This program is successful and the results speak for themselves. For example in the first year of the mentoring program, 80% of the male youth that leave the facility with an individual True North mentor, do not return to prison.
True North offers many services for imprisoned youth such as job skills and vocational training, but the most important aspect is a relationship with a Christian mentor. Although we do not require the youth to believe as we believe, we do hold to the fact that a personal relationship with Jesus Christ is the only way for our youth to be physically and spiritually liberated from imprisonment.
If you have a passion for Christ, a passion for youth, and a willing heart to serve and walk along side an imprisoned youth, then please fill out our volunteer application and talk to a True North representative today!
